Dos Santos

In June I had the opportunity to photograph Chicago Band Dos Santos for International Anthem Recording Co.

Their new album has received great reviews and I was happy to see some of my photos used in articles by reputable sites.

“City Of Mirrors, the new album from the Chicago quintet Dos Santos, feels like it’s perpetually building and expanding. Cumbia rhythms rise from the production and mix with jazz melodies; a sudden huapango structure might jut out from a chorus or intro. Since coming together in 2013, the band has always had an effortless way of mixing genres and Latinx traditions, but the bolts are tighter than ever on this project — and the subject matter is weighty and pressing, marking an imaginative step forward for a band that’s never limited itself to begin with.”

Longtime BBC broadcaster, Gilles Peterson, started an online radio station named Worldwide FM. The station has grown and is now offering very cool membership benefits such as their 'Test Press Club'. Across the globe, members get a test pressing of a record from one of Gilles' favorite record labels. My photographs appear in the Dos Santos edition, here is a description of the club from WWFM's site:

The Test Press Club is a limited membership bringing you special white label editions of our favourite curated upfront records every month. Each edition comes stamped and numbered with a booklet comprising exclusive photography and interview material from the artists involved. Test Press Club

“Prominent among the rising generation is Chicago-based drummer Makaya McCraven. The performer, 32, made a stir last year with the release of his sophomore album “In the Moment,” drawn from live recordings made during a year-long residency at the Bedford, a Wicker Park venue where Mr. McCraven led a rotating crew each week”

Makaya McCraven

I’ve been fortunate to photograph Makaya McCraven many times over the years. The photos used in The Wall Street Journal and in Wax Poetics were taken at various events in LA and Chicago.

“Through live jam sessions and studio recontextualization, drummer and producer Makaya McCraven cultivates a conduit between the jazz roots of improvisation and the expansive branches of modern music.”

Innocent Postcard

Earlier this year an old friend reached out to say he was interested in using one of my solargraph photos for his new album art. I think it fits really well with his music.

“An alternative-rock album, Is It Everything You'd Imagined is a collection of 12 tracks with some great guitar licks, spaced out vocals, and a driving rhythm section. It has a shoegaze and post-punk feel to it as well, reminiscent of The Cure or My Bloody Valentine. “
